

A Range Safety Officer (RSO)
is a certified individual responsible for ensuring a safe and controlled environment during shooting activities, particularly at firing ranges.

Responsibilities:
RSOs are the primary point of contact for ensuring safety on the range. They are responsible for:

Implementing and enforcing safety regulations.

Coordinating all activities on the range.

Monitoring the actions of shooters to ensure adherence to safety protocols.

Reporting any unsafe equipment or practices to the appropriate authorities.

Cancelling range exercises if deemed unsafe.

Range Safety Officer Training Course
The NWT Federation of Shooting Sports is hosting a Range Safety Officer (RSO) course. Upon successful completion of the theory and practical sessions, participants will be certified as RSOs at NWT shooting ranges, including the Yellowknife Shooting Club. We are taking 10 participants for this course.
This certification is required to run events with the Yellowknife Shooting Club.
DATE : June 14, 2025 (Saturday)
TIME: 10:00AM - 3:00PM
Event format
Classroom session to discuss theory with a short exam; lunch break; practical portion at the outdoor shooting range.
Locations:
Morning classroom session :
Shooting Performance Centre (corner of 52 Ave and 51 St, entrance on 51 St);
Afternoon Practical Session: YKSC outdoor range.
Cost: $20

What to bring: For the afternoon session bring a firearm/ammunition, personal safety gear (ear/eye protection), water, and wear clothing suitable for outdoors
Requirements: Must hold a valid PAL and be a current member of the Yellowknife Shooting Club (or other NWT community shooting club).
